World war 2 was a significant historical moment and it was expected that airsoft would use it as an inspiration for gun replicas and MilSim events across the globe.
Today, there are many replicas of airsoft WW2 guns, but not all are effective but are rather for fun and cosplays or movie props, so I have created a list of 7 great looking, effective, and competitive WW2 airsoft replicas that will fit most people’s budget.
My favorite and best WW2 airsoft guns I could find are:
- D98 M1A1 American SMG
- M1 American WW2 carbine rifle
- Mosin-Nagant M44 WW2 Russian carbine rifle
- British Sten WW2 SMG
- HFC German WW1/WW2 pistol
- Colt 1911 American pistol (blowback version)
- Colt 1911 American pistol (non-blowback version)
I did not want to make the list long, but I may add another gun or two in the future to this post in case I find something that looks authentic, works good and I hear people like it. I have also written an article on best realistic airsoft guns, so you may like it.
1. Well D98 M1A1 American WW2 airsoft SMG
You can check the price on Amazon here.
The most iconic WW2 gun portrayed in famous American WW2 and post-war movies has its replica embodied in this simple but great performing airsoft SMG.
Thompson gun has got most of its praise during Chicago mafia wars where all elite gang members carried this SMG as an answer to quick road battles that required lots of bullets in lesser time to produce the mayhem and allow the gangsters to get out of the scene as quick as possible. By the way I created an airsoft MAFIA loadout idea just for fun.
However, this gun originated in the American WW2 army and was a number one choice for close combat scenarios due to its natural ability to cause an immediate meltdown in the targeted area without too many aiming skills.
Although I recommend strategizing, saving ammo, and playing on semi-auto mode, you can play airsoft with this gun in the exact same way, encounter the enemy and spray them down without too much finesse with crazy 450 BBs per minute ratio!
I recommend this SMG for CQB games and outdoor games where you won’t have to manage the distance and worry about snipers, but will rather be aggressive and engageable.
It comes with a battery with is perfect in beginnings, but I would upgrade it for a stronger one (9.6v NiMH) and place compatible connectors to make it better after some time.
The cons are that there are better performing airsoft guns of higher quality which are also more friendly to future upgrades, yet this should not bother you if you want to have a simple WW2 airsoft machine that does a great job at close to medium distances.
If you’ll need more upgrades for better performance you can even use this SMG as a secondary gun or for silly fun because this gun certainly is that!

2. American M1 carbine WW2 airsoft sniper rifle
You can find the price on Amazon here.
If you have paid attention to WW2 movies or if you’ve played a lot of COD and Medal of Honor games you will immediately recall all the moments of glory that involved the standard M1 rifle.
It was a weapon of choice for American troupes during WW2 and it was designed as a semi-automatic rifle that could take enemies at medium-long distances with outstanding accuracy and velocity.
The manufacturers of this M1 airsoft replica managed to acquire a nice wooden-like look on it while it’s built from metal and ABS plastics to ensure quality.
This gun definitely looks amazing and is satisfying for playing, but I must mention its performance that unfortunately did not leave me speechless.
If you are looking for a great-looking airsoft WW2 gun with the great performance you should skip to the next one which is basically a Russian version of this gun.
The issue with performance is that this M1 airsoft rifle has mediocre effective distance, so you can use it for battles where the targets are under 100 feet.
This gun is also spring action so you will have to manually cock it before each shot which is not a bad thing because these guns fit the narrative of bolt action and it saves lots of money otherwise spent on gas or electricity.
To me, I would like to have more room for distance shooting because originally this gun in real life should be able to reach far over than SMGs.
If you do not mind this issue and admire the phenomenal appearance then this M1 airsoft replica will be a phenomenal choice!

3. Russian WW2 WinGun Mosin-Nagant M44 airsoft rifle
You can check the price on Airsoft Station here.
The authentic airsoft replica of M44 is the rifle that inspired me to write this post. It’s made from a full metal barrel, magazine, and trigger assembly while the rest is made of realistic faux-wood ABS, giving it the perfect sturdiness and quality along with realistic (8.2lbs) weight.
If you have played ww2 Russian campaigns in popular games such as COD you will be familiar with this gun and it is the most iconic Russian empiresoviet union non-front-line troops rifle.
Besides its beautiful and quality design, it can achieve extraordinary 480 FPS with 0.20g BBs and produce realistic trigger pull with each shot fired.
It is also crazily accurate at distances under 180 ft and comes with adjustable parts such as front and rear sights so you can adjust the gun to your needs.
It is a single-shot rifle that requires manual bolt action adjustment, so you should also have a secondary airsoft gun with a higher rate of fire like these Glocks at the reach of hand if you plan to play aggressively at the moments, but this WW2 rifle replica is the closest it comes to perfection when we talk about airsoft WW2 replicas on the market.
Oh, and did I mention it comes with an integrated folding steel bayonet?

4. AGM WW2 British Sten airsoft rifle
You can check the price on Airsoft Station here.
WW2 British Sten was created from the urge of needing an effective quick-firing rifle for open combat similar to what Thompson was in American troupes.
British army managed to create an effective rifle that does not only provide a great rate of fire and accuracy at close range but is also effective at longer distances.
Similarly to the original one, the airsoft AGM WW2 British Sten replica is a great weapon of choice for CQB games where MED requirements are due to be respected (thanks to 350 FPS) but is also effective outdoors due to its ability to reach targets under 150 feet quite accurately with a help of adjustable hop-up.
Some parts are made of ABS, but what is phenomenal is that all important parts of the Sten replica are made from full metal such as receiver, stock, front and rear sights, barrel assembly, and gearbox which assures the realistic weight and great durability.
The manufacturers are proud of the famous Tokyo Marui version 7 metal reinforced gearbox and if you have heard of the Tokyo Marui brand you will immediately notice the quality.
Stem replica is super upgrade-friendly and simply put, this gun has everything you are looking for if you are not already sold on an American Thompson gun and are rather going for that British WW2 loadout.

5. German HFC WW2 airsoft pistol
You can check the price on Airsoft Station here.
This pistol may be familiar to you for its depiction during WW2 and you may have seen it in movies, but it originated way before WW2 and WW1 in the German army, more specifically in 1896.
Just as it was used on the battlefield on the German side, this airsoft HFC replica makes it a perfect choice for a superb pistol, being capable of outranging most other airsoft pistols in the outdoor games with great accuracy because this pistol comes with great velocity (410 FPS with 0.20g BBs) and adjustable hop-up which makes it an effective pseudo-semi-auto rifle.
Due to these reasons, it may not be a good pick purely for CQB games in case your field has FPS limits, but outdoors it is a real small semi machine.
Combine its effectiveness with ergonomic hand grip, full metal construction, double-action trigger, authentic Mauser details such as broom handle grip and satisfying sound it makes when you pull the trigger and the metal hammer collides with the firing pin and you have an excellent looking, realistic and great performing airsoft replica in your arsenal.

6. American COLT 1911 airsoft WW2 pistol
You can check the price on Airsoft Station here.
The list wouldn’t be complete without a classic WW2 American Colt 1991 and this full metal airsoft replica is an exact 1:1 scale of a real model with realistic weight and authentic Colt trademarks.
It’s entirely made of metal, has an ergonomic faux wood grip, an adjustable hop-up unit for great distance management of the BBs, and an awesome blowback system!
It’s so well done and durable because it is a blowback pistol powered by Co2, so internals and gun construction needs to be as sturdy as possible.
Its medium velocity (350 fps) means that it is perfectly usable for CQB games but due to great hop-up it can compete with powerful outdoors airsoft guns as well.
I like fully licensed airsoft replicas and this one just had to get on the list.

7. Colt 1991 non-blowback budget version
You can check the price on Airsoft Station here.
For all those on a budget and those who want to exclude the realism of blowback mechanism for efficiency of gas and performance, there is a Non-blowback version of the same gun.
It is also a full metal constructed airsoft replica with adjustable hop-up but it trades some authenticity details of the previous model for better performance in terms of noticeable 500 fps and savings in terms of Co2.
It’s a great gun nevertheless but do you need extra fps for some added range at the cost of not being able to pass the MED criteria in some airsoft fields and games?
The fact it does not have a blowback mechanism means that you can almost double the number of shoots with the same amount of Co2 because it does not take Co2 to power up the sliding mechanism.
It’s also more affordable for your budget!
