Airsoft gun laws in Wyoming

Wyoming is a nice place for playing airsoft, however it is important to check what the law says before you start your airsoft journey in the state of Wyoming.

I have made a research on the law and decided to make a summary of my research so you can stay safe and out of troubles.

The law regarding airsoft guns varies from state to state and hopefully the state of Wyoming has very simple law that applies to replicas. So what does the Wyoming law say?

In short, there are no specific laws that forbid the use of airsoft guns in the state of Wyoming. The law remains silent about airsoft replicas and only mentions firearms.

I will be sharing with you the best practices and will mention some important rules that must be respected.

Are Airsoft guns legal in the state of Wyoming?

Under the term „firearm“ falls any device that uses the explosive charge in order to project any steel projectile that is capable of hurting another human being.

Airsoft guns do not use the explosive charge and do not project any steel.

This means that the state does not define anything in particular regarding airsoft guns and expects you to follow the rules of the common sense when using your replica.

There are however, many laws that forbid you from misbehaving and you can break such law with your airsoft replica if you are not careful. Further in post I will be sharing the best practices so you can be sure that no one does any ill to you.

Transporting your airsoft replica in public

There are many laws that can be accidentally breached if you bring your replica in public. People easily get frightened and it may provoke some unwanted reactions.

Whenever you leave your home with the airsoft replica be sure that it is well fitted in one of the bags and that no one can see it.

Both gun bags and gun cases are a good choice but always see the size and calculate do you need a bigger one if you plan to add up to the arsenal, you start with a single airsoft gun and before you realize you have a whole collection.

You can check my guide on best bags and cases for airsoft. There you can find some great picks.

Can you shoot your airsoft gun in your backyard in Wyoming?

You are allowed to shoot any Airsoft gun on the private property if you have the consensus of the owner. Worry not, if you are the owner, you can shoot for as much as you want but you still need to be careful that not a single BB leaves your property and ends up in the neighbour’s garden.

If your neighbour finds it out they are eligible to sue you for the property violation. This however, depends on how nice your neighbours are and how easily frightened they are.

Some people get shivers when they see a toy that resembles a real gun so realistically as airsoft replica does, so they make get frightened and call the police, however on your private property you can play it without worries from committing any violation.

Also bear on mind that you do not hit any random passenger that may be minding their own business.

Is it legal to remove the orange tip on your replica in Wyoming?

There are no additional laws that will punish you for not holding the orange tip on your replica in Wyoming.

However, there is a federal law that insists that every gun imported in the states must have the orange tip on top of it and sometimes additional orange markings.

This applies to all the stores and shops and they must respect it whenever they sell a gun.

The best practice would be to keep it on the gun after buying it, but most of the players and people remove it anyways because orange tip does not add up to the realism.

You are allowed to remove it but you need to be respecting the rule of not displaying your replica anywhere in the public without it.

As a matter of fact you should not ever display even the marked replicas in public because the common folk or police officers will not care much for the markings from afar anyways and it may provoke a counterattack.

There have been shootings that were caused by the misunderstanding and this is supposed to be on your mind.

Rules to respect regarding airsoft guns

The following rules are the best practices that will keep you out of trouble.

Do not use it for self defense

I am mentioning this because some people believe that the airsoft replica has enough power to stop someone who wants to harm you and that it is a law friendly way of the weapon use for self defense.

Using it for self defense purposes can add up to the issues. You can read more about this issue if you considered using it for such purposes, here.

Respect it as a real gun

Almost every bad scenario can be avoided if you respect your replica as you would with the real gun in your hands.

People often behave that they can do the forbidden things with their replica because they know it is a toy, the others do not know it is just a toy.

In terms of the power it may lack it, however it can still cause damage to the property and do certain sensitive body parts.

Do not display your airsoft gun in public

Whenever you carry your replica in public, be sure that it is hidden in a box or a bag so that no one can see it.

Displaying it in public can cause big incidents even when the replica is properly marked with the orange tip.

Do not display your replica nearby school premises

Displaying a replica in a public place is dangerous, however the school premises and guns are highly sensitive topics nowadays and you should absolutely be very cautious.

This means that even a low-grade airsoft replica with 100 fps can cause an incident if displayed nearby school premises.

Be careful how you transport your replica

Transportation in public requires you to carry it in a bag, however there is another tip that you should apply when driving.

Always keep your replica out of reach when driving, so if you ever get a routine check by the police officers they do not react aggressively.
